SHENANDOAH HEIGHTS BAPTIST CHURCH
1949
.
A series of home prayer meetings and Sunday School classes were held in Waynesboro during the summer of 1948 until September, when the Shenandoah
Heights Mission was constituted. Lots were purchased by the Virginia Baptist Board of Missions and Education, and construction was begun on a building paid for by Waynesboro Baptist Church.
In March, 1949, the mission became Shenandoah Heights Baptist Church. Rev. Scott C. Hutton, Sr., was the first pastor. On June 1, 1960, Rev. Hutton returned as pastor again.
In 1955, after the church had dedicated a new building, plans were made to start a mission Sunday School in the Wayne Hills area.
Rev. B. C. Akers has been pastor since 1972. Present membership is 547.
