SHER LYND BAPTIST CHURCH
1968
In the 1950's, Rev. Roland Powell and the membership of the stuarts Draft Baptist Church felt a need for a Baptist church in the Sherando-Lyndhurst area. Prayer meetings were held, and in 1966, a census was taken that indicated 31 families with a Baptist membership or preference.
Under the leadership of Rev. Judson Baldwin,of the Stuarts Draft Church, a mission was established on May 7, 1967. Rev. Scott Hutton, Sr., served as interim pastor from October 1, 1967,to December 12, 1968, during which time the mission was constituted as Sher Lynd Baptist Church.Membership at Sher Lynd is 237, with a record 45 baptisms reported for 1993.
