SINGERS GLEN BAPTIST CHURCH

1876

On Friday, April 14, 1876, seventeen persons were constituted into a church which was to be known as the Singers Glen Baptist Church of Jesus Christ. Turley town Baptist Church was the mother church.
Their first meeting place was a one-room building which was erected in 1875 as a union chapel by Baptists and United Brethren. In 1888, the Baptists sold their interest and built their own building. The ornate pulpit in the church was made by a charter member, Squire John Funk.
Singers Glen Baptist Church has served well in preparing its sons and daughters to go forth to minister for the Lord. Dr. W. O. Beazley, Rev. Judson Baldwin, and Rev. Francis Funk were ordained as pastors by the church. Singers Glen was also the home church of Mrs. Rachael Funk
Walkins, who served forty-one years in India as a missionary.
In 1907, a series of evangelistic meetings was held from November 15 through December 22,resulting in 70 professions of faith as well as 46 other additions to the church. In 1925, revival services ended with 100 conversions.
Numbers in the Glen are not what they used to be. And yet who can calculate the number of persons who have been influenced, reached, and
discipled for Christ by members of this church!
