1970
In 1963, the Missions Corrunittee of Harrisonburg Baptist Church recognized the need for additional Baptist ministry in Harrisonburg. A house
was purchased and renovated, and in July, 1964, the Virginia Avenue Mission opened. The congregation met there for seven years, with members of
Harrisonburg Baptist leading in the services .
In February, 1970, the mission constituted as West Side Baptist Church of Harrisonburg, with 58 charter members. Today, there are 603 members.
other churches in the Association have sponsored missions and started churches, but West Side is the only one to share facilities with a Russian
Baptist Church, which is, in fact, the largest Russian congregation in the United States .
